Five star luxury, cocktails in Raffles, sunbathing on glorious beaches and shopping till we drop...it's a hard life in Singapore, ha!ha!
Swapping hostels for home comfort we were extremely grateful (and forever will be) to Pam and Paul - friends of Sharon's, who put us up for a fantastic 4 nights. Taking us around the sights we got to see Santosa Island, China Town, Clarke Quay, East Coast Park (by bike!), the merlions et al, and were introduced to Singapore style dining (at the Hokka centres dotted across the city). We also had a girly night out starting with cocktails at Raffles, drinks in the New Asia Bar overlooking the entire city, and dancing at Chimes. Paul and Pam's wee boys - Ethan and Josh - we're adorable too, keeping us entertained morning and night. I even ended up fully clothed in the pool following one waterfight - and that was on Day 1!
It was a fantastic four days we'll never forget!
P.S. Pics to follow soon. Forgot my camera lead!

Phi Phi & Phuket - the final days!

Wow. The four weeks in Thailand have flown by.
Ko Phi Phi was fantastic, come rain and shine - and we got alot of the former. We luckly managed to hire a longtail boat to take us to Ko Phi Phi Ley on the sunniest day - which was absolutely stunning. Jumping off the side of the tailboat into the cool lagoons, hopping onto white sand beaches, catching our dropping jaws as we took in the rocks and caves. Brilliant. And of course we had to visit THE BEACH - Maya Bay. We also took an energetic walk up the steep steps to the viewpoint on Koh Phi Phi Don, which i was practically crawling up by the end. There's nothing like a good climb (and view) to leave you breathless!
And now we're spending our last days in Phuket - where the sun has rejoined us. This place is positively electrifying with neon bars, market stalls, colourful tuk tuks and flamboyant lady boys galore! And what better way to capture the essence of Thailand on our last night then by watching these 'entertainers' in all their feathered glory at Simons Cabaret - an all singing, all dancing, all together musical night...with Tina Turner stealing the show.

Sun, sea, sand and sangsom

Well we found the beaches we've been looking for. And they've been beautiful! Koh Lanta was fantastic and, because it was low season, very very quiet. Having to wander no further than the beach for food, drinks and chocolate it was heaven. And the evening entertainment - that came in the form of gorgeous puppies, kittens, thunderstorms and lightening...oh and thai karaoke, as well as many many games of cards. Check out our poker faces!
After 4 nights of peace and quiet we took our next boat to what we expected to be the busiest of the islands so far - Koh Phi Phi. With Thai boxing, the least Irish bar you've ever seen and buckets of sangsom on the beach we love it! An the beaches aren't halve bad either - ha!ha! Its gorgeous - with the most stunning of views. And there's plenty more to see - so we're heading off in a long tail to check them out over the next few days.
Only Phuket left to see after here and onto Singapore. Only 4 weeks to go till we're home. Time is flying!

Hoppy-thai-hop

We're still on the hop around the Islands, taking in the beaches, the Thai culture and the irish pubs!
We had five nights in Koh Samui, sandwiched between the two resorts of Chaweng and Lamai. Chaweng was tres busy and Tropical Murphy's Irish bar caught our eye - as did the roast dinners ...Yum yum! Well i can't eat noodles all the time, he! After buckets of samsung for dessert, the Green Mango strip of bars was certainly entertaining.
Our beach (Silver Sands) was nice and quiet, giving us plenty time to soak up the sun (me from the comfort of a palm's shade) and relax. Sharon and i also visited the local attraction of the Grandmother and Grandfather Rock formations. Hmmmm, i'll let you see the pics and judge for yourself but they were certainly interesting.
And now we've arrived in Krabi after an interesting bus/boat and mini bus adventure. But without the white sand beaches and clear blue waters we'd hoped for we've decided to head off to the west islands asap, starting with Ko Lanta tomorrow!

Its a Thai life...

Oh my, how i'm loving Thailand.
Since my last blog i've turned 27 - eeek!, with the the funniest of days. Off to a great start when the girls gave me a tres nice bag to lug around all my bits plus...TWO TOFFEE CRISPS! Now i know that may not seem like a big deal to all you folk back home with easy access to Asda or Morrisons confectionary but to me getting a toffee crisp was like all my christmas's had come at once. Yum Yum! I licked the wrapper clean! Then we headed off for a big brekkie before taking it easy with a Thai massage. Oooh, aaaaa, ouch! A strange combination of torture and bliss, its hard to describe. But as you'll see from the pics we all look half awake and happy by the end. Buckets of vodka and a dance at Bed Supperclub (tres nice club) ended a great day.
Whether its the thai massage or the heavy backpack - i'm certainly feeling the extra year. So after a tuk tuk drive of Bangkok and a few Buddha temples, it was great to arrive in Ko Tao - a blissful island north of Koh Samui. We've spent many days lying in the sun and soaking up the stunning surroundings while Laura & Kim do their open water PADI course with our hotel - Buddha View. We did take time out for Songkran tho - the Thai New Year celebrations and water festival. I've never seen so many twenty-somethings running around with water pistals!
In a couple of days we'll be heading for Koh Samui - for 5 days and nights of more of the same...sunbathing and chill-axing! And Kim & Laura can ditch the study books - they'll be qualified divers by the time you read this! x x

Buzzing Bangkok!
Well hello from scorching Thailand and the crazy streets of Bangkok!
Phew its hot. We're talking 35 degrees in the day, and what feels like the same at night. I'm on a water diet! And i'm not trying to make you all jealous - honest - this heat is unbearably hot. Get me to a beach will ya.
So far we've done, well heaps. On our first day we browsed the weekend market and all the bargains. Resisted temptation tho, given there is little space in the backpack, ha! And today we've been to a floating market (brilliant), the Bridge over River Kwai (beautiful) and a Tiger Temple (scary!). Even got to stroke a few - i'm sensing a theme of this trip so far and stroking animals, hmmm. This was by far the scariest as you'll see by my face in the pics, ha!
Tomorrow we're off to get Thai massages and celebrate me joining the oldies....eeek! Might even take in a Buddha or two if i'm not asleep after those thai elbows have dug into all my knots from lugging the backpack, he.
Off to my 2 pound 50 a night room - oooh i love this place!
